The 9th Annual NPAM Conference has a diverse set of presentations and interactive workshops on a variety of issues that health care practitioners face on a day to day basis. Our speakers include a variety of experts from across the country, including Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and Physiotherapists.

We are very fortunate to have two amazing Keynote Speakers this year:

  • Dr. Tom Perry, a general internist and professor of clinical pharmacology, internal medicine and ration drug therapy, traveling all the way from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
  • Dr. Leslie Jocelyn, a uniquely trained Developmental Pediatrician and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

Below is a brief bio from each of our Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Tom Perry graduated from medical school in 1978, then took additional training in clinical pharmacology until 1989, when he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. He has served as Opposition Health Critic, Minister for Advanced Education, Training & Technology, and as a government MLA.  These experiences alerted him to the importance of getting good value for money in health care, in order to maintain an effective universal health service in Canada. In 1996 Dr. Perry returned to clinical medicine and practiced general internal medicine at Delta Hospital, UBC Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital until 2014. He now teaches clinical pharmacology at UBCH. His outpatient practice focuses on pharmacological treatment of chronic pain and high blood pressure and reduction of pointless or dangerous polypharmacy. Dr. Perry also chairs the Education Working Group of the UBC Therapeutics Initiative, participates in the Drug Assessment Working Group, and is primary author for a number of             Therapeutics Initiative Letters.

Dr. Leslie Jocelyn has spent her entire career working with children and youth with neurodevelopmental and behavior disorders. She completed her medical, pediatrics and psychiatry training at the University of Manitoba. She worked previously in Winnipeg as a Developmental Pediatrician and in Ottawa as the Consulting Psychiatrist at the Emerging Minds Clinic. In her current position as a Consulting Psychiatrist in Winnipeg she provides assessment and treatment for children and adolescents with ADHD and associated disorders.

There will also be a variety of exhibits to learn about employment opportunities throughout the country, educational tools for your clinic, information on a variety of pharmaceuticals, and services that can help improve the quality of life for your patients.

Networking opportunities: This year participants will have longer breaks in order to allow for more time to network with colleagues, recruitment agencies, and exhibits. There will also be another NP Social Networking Event on the Friday evening, that will include a poutine and dessert bar, served tapas, and cash bar. A variety of NP profiles will be highlighted and awards will be presented, while offering time to mingle with your colleagues and get to know stakeholders and NPs from across the province.

The Annual General Meeting will be held over a free breakfast on November 3rd, and is for NPAM members only. Although it is free, be sure to add it to your conference ticket as we will need to know attendance numbers!

Following positive feedback from last year, the conference will once again be taking place at the Viscount Gort Hotel. Come enjoy the benefits of a full suite of services and amenities while attending the conference! The Viscount Gort offers an inviting and spacious pool oasis and waterslide, free parking, high speed wifi, and a free airport shuttle service!
